James Bartholomew Crawley | 31 |
Allen LeechThe facts were these: James Bartholomew Crawley was born to an Aristocratic family. The first time he screamed out, signaling to everyone that he was alive and well, his life was set in stone. As soon as he could walk, his mother and father insisted that he start preparing from the life ahead of him - keeping of their reputation, inheriting the estate AND the fortune that came with it, and getting married. But, what do you call a man who has no will to do such things? What do you call a man who wished to live a simpler life?
A rebel.
He had decided to attend university and came back some time later with a degree in architecture. His parents resorted to begging for him to follow their plan, and he proposed to a woman – or, he was made to. Violet Matthews, her name was. A Lady from another town, who had her own plan in life. They didn’t love each other, for they saw things differently: she wanted to stay and marry him because of the money, and he wanted to go off and get a job and work among the middle class people. However, as they spent more time together, feelings began to evolve. It was late December when James proposed again to her, this time with joy.
The wedding was a spectacular event, as was the next few years. The two had a child, whom they named Abigail. The trio was happy for three years, until Violet died from scarlet fever. Stricken with grief, James moved from the estate and to America, where he found two things: a place to work, and a home for him and Abigail. He still has the fortune of his estate, but has found needed joy in living simpler, making sketches for buildings and then eagerly watching them be built. It was his paradise.
